The Business Permit and Licensing Office (BPLO) of Mandaue City has issued a crucial reminder to all local business owners as the Christmas season approaches. With a significant increase in events, parties, and commercial activity expected, the office is emphasizing strict adherence to permit requirements and safety guidelines.
Special Permits Required for Extended Operations
Attorney August Lizer Malate, the head of the BPLO, specifically pointed out that establishments like bars, entertainment hubs, and recreational businesses must obtain a special permit if they plan to conduct activities beyond their regular operational area. He clarified that businesses operating solely within their own premises do not need this additional authorization. The directive aims to manage the anticipated surge in holiday gatherings and ensure all expansions are officially sanctioned and monitored.
Safety and Monitoring as Top Priorities
Malate stressed that the safety and security of customers must be the foremost concern at all times. He explained that maintaining order during the bustling holiday period requires full cooperation from business operators. Furthermore, Malate discussed the possibility that Mayor Thadeo Jovito “Jonkie” Ouano will form a dedicated monitoring team. This team would oversee commercial activities related to the holidays, focusing on crowded areas and businesses suspected of operating without the necessary permits.
Firecracker Sales and Enforcement
These monitoring operations could involve joint inspections and surveillance, especially since the sale and use of firecrackers typically rise during Christmas. However, the BPLO clarified that oversight of firecracker-related businesses falls under the jurisdiction of the Mandaue City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MCDRRMO). Malate issued a firm warning that any violations committed by establishments will face corresponding penalties. He also acknowledged that some entrepreneurs might seek to extend their operating hours to cater to the influx of Christmas shoppers, a practice that must be properly coordinated and permitted.
The city government's proactive stance highlights its commitment to a safe, orderly, and festive holiday season for all residents and visitors of Mandaue.
