Mandaue City is set to illuminate the holiday season with its Christmas Lighting Ceremony scheduled for Thursday, November 28, 2025, as announced by Mayor Thadeo Jovito "Jonkie" Ouano.
Preparations Nearly Complete
The city government has revealed that preparations are almost finished, with a dry run for the tree lighting conducted on Tuesday evening. According to Engineer Marivic Cabigas, head of the Department of General Services, the decorations are 95 percent complete and ready for the grand unveiling.
Mayor Ouano has encouraged families and residents to visit the city plaza, particularly during weekends, to experience the holiday displays. The celebration will extend beyond the main plaza to include Ouano Avenue and A.C. Cortes, creating a wider festive atmosphere throughout key areas of the city.
Budget and Design Significance
The city has allocated an estimated budget of P5 to P8 million for the Christmas decorations, lights, and the main Christmas tree. This substantial investment reflects the city's commitment to bringing holiday cheer to its residents.
Engineer Cabigas explained that this year's theme and design draw inspiration from the challenges the city has faced throughout the year. She described the display as serving as a "reminder to everyone not to lose hope" and emphasized that Christmas represents a celebration of faith and resilience.
Moderate Celebrations with Community Focus
In consideration of recent calamities that have affected the city, the celebrations will be more subdued this year. The city has decided against holding major shows or band performances, opting instead for a more reflective and community-focused approach to the holidays.
A food park will operate for ten days, providing residents with dining options while they enjoy the Christmas displays. Mayor Ouano and city officials also encourage residents who may not have time to decorate their own homes to take advantage of the city's Christmas display as their primary holiday destination.
The Christmas Lighting Ceremony represents Mandaue City's effort to uplift spirits while remaining mindful of the difficulties the community has recently endured, creating a balance between celebration and reflection during the holiday season.
