Mandaue City Government Grants Deadline Extension for Business Permits and Tax Payments

The City Government of Mandaue has officially announced an extension for the deadline to apply for business permits and settle tax payments. This move is designed to provide additional convenience and support to business owners who have been adversely affected by recent natural disasters, including severe floods and earthquakes.

Approved Ordinance and New Deadlines

Attorney August Lizer Malate, the head of the Business Permit and Licensing Office (BPLO), confirmed that the extension was approved under an ordinance proposed by Councilor Joel Seno and endorsed by the administration of Mayor Thadeo Jovito “Jonkie” Ouano. The original deadline, which was set for January 20, 2026, has now been moved to January 25, 2026.

Businesses that submit their applications online before January 25 will be granted an extended period until January 31, 2026, to pay their taxes without incurring any penalties or surcharges. Entrepreneurs who file their applications online prior to January 25 will not be classified as late filers, ensuring a smoother process for those who act promptly.

Penalties for Late Submissions

Applications submitted after January 25 will be considered late and will not be prioritized for processing. Late filers will face a 25 percent surcharge along with an additional 2 percent interest per month for any delays. The processing of these late applications will commence starting in February, as per the BPLO guidelines.

Consideration for Business Challenges

According to Malate, the decision to extend the deadline was made after careful consideration of the difficulties faced by local entrepreneurs. The recent calamities have significantly disrupted business operations, making it challenging for many to meet the original deadlines. This extension aims to alleviate some of the financial and administrative burdens during this recovery period.

Current Application Trends and Encouragement

Despite the high volume of applications, the BPLO has observed that more people are motivated to handle their permits early this year. It is estimated that approximately 11,000 applications are currently being processed by the office. The city government strongly encourages all business owners to take advantage of this extension to avoid penalties and ensure the efficient processing of their permits.

By utilizing this extended timeframe, entrepreneurs can secure their business licenses without unnecessary stress, contributing to the overall economic stability and resilience of Mandaue City in the aftermath of natural disasters.
