Mandaue Traffic Agency Intensifies Legal Action Against Traffic Violators

The Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue, commonly known as Team, is continuing its strict and regular practice of filing cases against traffic violators, with a particular focus on those who commit serious offenses. This initiative aims to strengthen road discipline and ensure driver accountability, as emphasized by Team Department Head Hyll Retuya.

Focus on Major and Reckless Drivers

According to Retuya, the agency is intensifying legal actions against drivers who are reckless and those who commit significant violations. He explained that filing cases is the most effective method to compel motorists to settle their fines and discourage them from repeatedly breaking traffic laws.

Retuya highlighted that the consistent filing of cases has improved compliance among motorists. Violators now tend to visit the Team office promptly to pay their fines after making a traffic mistake, rather than ignoring penalties.

Legal Process and Grace Period Details

Under the legal framework, Team has a 60-day window to file a case before it prescribes. During this period, the agency provides violators with a seven-day grace period to address their violations. This step is designed to give offenders an opportunity to resolve matters without immediate legal escalation.

Retuya clarified that if a violator pays while a case is already being processed, Team will immediately forward the payment to have the case dismissed or withdrawn. The agency aims to avoid situations where a person has paid but still faces a warrant of arrest, ensuring a smoother resolution process.

Consequences of Non-Compliance

Retuya noted that violators who fail to attend court hearings twice may be issued a warrant of arrest. Typically, once a warrant is issued, the violator rushes to settle, and the case is dismissed after payment. This mechanism underscores the importance of adhering to legal proceedings to prevent further complications.

Prioritizing Major Violators

Currently, Team is prioritizing the filing of cases against major violators due to the high volume of records that need to be managed within a short timeframe. This targeted approach allows the agency to handle more severe offenses efficiently while maintaining overall traffic law enforcement efforts.

By focusing on legal actions, Team seeks to create a safer driving environment in Mandaue, promoting responsible behavior among motorists and reducing traffic-related incidents through stringent enforcement measures.
