As the country prepares for New Year festivities, the local government of Masantol is taking a firm stand against excessive noise, specifically targeting motorcycles with loud exhausts. The move aims to ensure a more peaceful and orderly celebration for all residents.
Strict Enforcement of Existing Ordinance
Mayor Danilo Guintu has announced the strict enforcement of Municipal Ordinance No. 2016-007, which prohibits the use of loud mufflers on motorcycles and other two-wheeled vehicles. The mayor emphasized that the law is being implemented to maintain peace and order throughout the municipality, especially during the noisy holiday period.
The ordinance mandates that all motorcycle owners must equip their vehicles with proper silencers or noise-reducing devices. This requirement is designed to prevent the excessive and irritating noise often associated with modified exhaust systems, which can disturb communities and pose a public nuisance.
Penalties for Violators
Those caught violating the ordinance will face significant penalties. The sanctions are structured to increase with repeated offenses:
- First offense: A fine of ₱500 and community service.
- Second offense: A fine of ₱1,000.
- Third offense: A fine of ₱2,500.
This graduated penalty system underscores the local government's serious commitment to curbing noise pollution.
A Call for Community Cooperation
Mayor Guintu has made a direct appeal to both residents and visitors to adhere to the local law. He stressed that compliance is essential to avoid personal inconvenience from fines and, more importantly, to help foster a more harmonious environment.
"Para sa mas tahimik, ligtas, at maayos na pamayanan, sumunod po tayo sa ordinansa," the mayor stated, translating to "For a quieter, safer, and more orderly community, let us follow the ordinance." His message highlights the collective responsibility in promoting a better quality of life in Masantol, particularly as the New Year revelry approaches on December 31.
The local government's proactive reminder serves as a clear warning that law enforcers will be vigilant. This initiative is part of broader efforts to ensure that celebrations are conducted safely and respectfully, without causing undue disturbance to the peace and quiet of the town.
