In a significant security mobilization, approximately 2,000 police personnel will be deployed across Central Luzon to ensure a safe summer vacation period under the "Ligtas SUMVAC 2026" campaign, according to the Police Regional Office III (PRO-3). This initiative aims to protect the influx of travelers expected to visit various tourist destinations throughout Region 3.
Heightened Alert Period and Strategic Deployment
Brigadier General Jess B. Mendez, the director of PRO-3, announced that the regional police force will be on heightened alert from March 29 to May 31, 2026. This timeframe coincides with the peak summer season when thousands of tourists are anticipated to travel across the region. Mendez emphasized that the deployment is in line with directives from the Chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), focusing on strengthening police visibility and ensuring proactive measures to safeguard the public.
"Our priority is clear—to protect lives, secure communities, and ensure safe travel for all," Mendez stated, highlighting the campaign's core objectives. The security measures will include comprehensive strategies such as foot and mobile patrols to enhance surveillance and responsiveness in key areas.
Comprehensive Security Measures and Public Cooperation
To bolster safety, police assistance desks will be established at critical points including bus terminals, airports, seaports, major highways, and popular tourist spots. Additionally, road safety marshals will be deployed to manage traffic flow and assist motorists along major routes, aiming to reduce accidents and congestion during the busy travel period.
Mendez has directed unit commanders to coordinate closely with local government units, various government agencies, non-government organizations, and volunteer groups. This collaborative approach is designed to ensure a unified and effective public safety strategy. Force multipliers, such as Barangay Peacekeeping Action Teams and radio groups, will be mobilized to support law enforcement operations, particularly in crowded and high-risk areas.
"Security is a shared responsibility. We call on the public to remain vigilant and to immediately report any suspicious activities. Your cooperation is vital in keeping our communities safe," Mendez added, urging community involvement in maintaining security. The campaign underscores the importance of public awareness and participation in preventing incidents and ensuring a peaceful summer experience for residents and visitors alike.
