The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has confirmed that soldiers stationed at the BRP Sierra Madre in the West Philippine Sea (WPS) are fully prepared for the onset of the typhoon season. Rear Admiral Roy Vincent Trinidad (Ret.) stated that the military is ready to deploy additional assets and supplies if necessary.
Monitoring and Communication
According to Trinidad, the AFP regularly monitors the condition of naval forces deployed in the WPS, with robust communication lines in place to track their status. Despite seasonal risks, he noted that the WPS area, including the location of BRP Sierra Madre, is not a common typhoon path, resulting in minimal storm exposure for troops.
Supply and Rotation Missions
Trinidad assured that service and supply deliveries to personnel at BRP Sierra Madre will continue uninterrupted during the typhoon season. He emphasized that the Philippine government has sufficient large vessels for rotation and resupply missions, ensuring that soldiers in critical areas like the WPS receive necessary provisions. “The government will not allow any lapse in supply delivery to our troops,” Trinidad said.
