Details of the Tragic Incident

On April 9, Police Master Sergeant Romulo Galvez, a dedicated member of the Drug Enforcement Team (SDET) at Police Station 9 of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), was actively participating in a drug bust operation. During the operation, a 32-year-old suspect unexpectedly drew a caliber .45 firearm and shot Galvez.

The officer sustained a gunshot wound to his right thigh and was promptly transported to Bacolod Adventist Medical Center for emergency medical care. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Galvez succumbed to his injuries at 12:08 a.m. on April 10. The cause of death was determined to be hypovolemic shock resulting from the gunshot wound.

Arrest and Recovery of Evidence

The suspect, identified as a resident of Barangay Sum-ag in Bacolod City, was apprehended at the scene. Law enforcement officers recovered several pieces of critical evidence from his possession, including:

  • Multiple plastic sachets containing marijuana, with an estimated market value of P48,000.
  • The marked money used in the operation.
  • One caliber .45 pistol along with a magazine loaded with five live rounds of ammunition.

Honoring a Hero's Legacy

Mayor Gasataya revealed that earlier on the same day, Galvez had successfully executed multiple warrants of arrest, demonstrating his unwavering dedication and commitment to his duties. Galvez was a former member of the Special Weapon and Tactics (SWAT) unit and was widely regarded as a highly decorated officer held in the highest esteem by his superiors.

He died a hero in the line of duty, making the ultimate sacrifice in our city's ongoing pursuit of peace, justice, and the eradication of the illegal drug trade. His bravery will not be forgotten, the mayor affirmed, paying tribute to Galvez's exemplary service.

Support for the Bereaved Family

Mayor Gasataya has already met with Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) officer-in-charge Colonel Eugene Rebadomia and the grieving family of the fallen officer. The City Government has extended immediate assistance to Galvez's family and remains steadfast in its commitment to providing continued support throughout this profoundly difficult period.

Galvez exemplified the highest standard of duty and is a true hero of Bacolod City. We honor his sacrifice by ensuring that the justice he so bravely defended is delivered absolutely and without compromise, Mayor Gasataya concluded, reinforcing the city's resolve to seek justice for the fallen officer.
