In a significant crackdown on illicit activities within correctional facilities, authorities in Bacolod City executed a major greyhound operation at the Metro Bacolod District Jail–Male Dorm on March 3, 2026. The joint effort led to the seizure of numerous contraband items, highlighting ongoing challenges in prison security.
Coordinated Raid Yields Contraband Haul
Personnel from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology–Negros Island Region, in collaboration with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, conducted the operation starting around 7:30 a.m. Jail Chief Inspector Juniven Rey Umadhay, the BJMP-NIR spokesperson, detailed that the raid targeted cells within the male dormitory, resulting in the recovery of several prohibited items from persons deprived of liberty.
Items Confiscated and Documentation
Operatives uncovered a range of contraband, including multiple cellphones, chargers, money, improvised bladed weapons, and nuisance items. Umadhay emphasized that all confiscated materials were properly documented as part of standard procedures to maintain transparency and legal integrity in such operations.
Drug Testing and Safety Measures
Following the greyhound activity, the unit jail nurse administered drug tests to 155 PDLs. All tests yielded negative results, indicating no drug use among the inmates at the time of the raid. Umadhay noted that the operation was completed successfully, with no untoward incidents recorded, underscoring the effectiveness of the coordinated approach.
Future Operations and Security Goals
Umadhay affirmed that authorities will continue to conduct greyhound operations to eliminate the presence of contraband inside the jail. This ongoing initiative aims to enhance security, prevent illegal activities, and ensure a safer environment for both inmates and staff.
