BoC Declares All-Out War on Smuggling, One-Strike Policy

The Bureau of Customs (BoC) has declared an "all-out war" against smuggling while implementing a strict one-strike policy against personnel involved in corruption. BoC Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno stated that recent seizures of billions of pesos worth of smuggled cigarettes serve as a warning and signal of an intensified campaign against smugglers.

Zero Tolerance Policy

Nepomuceno emphasized that the agency will maintain a zero tolerance policy, and any employee proven to be involved in illegal activities can be immediately removed from their position. The BoC also highlighted that smuggling syndicates are becoming more sophisticated, including the use of private vessels to evade authorities.

Enhanced Operations

All collection districts have been directed to strengthen intelligence gathering, risk profiling, and enforcement operations. Coordination with the Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine Navy, Philippine National Police, National Bureau of Investigation, and local government units will be intensified. The agency assured the continuation of its modernization and more robust intelligence-driven enforcement.
