The Provincial Government of Bohol and the Municipality of Clarin have announced a combined cash reward of P250,000 for anyone who can identify the suspect responsible for the fatal shooting of a barangay councilor on Sunday, May 24, 2026.
Governor Announces Reward
Bohol Governor Erico Aumentado personally announced the offering of a P200,000 reward. The local government of Clarin has also committed an additional P50,000 to expedite the resolution of the crime.
Victim Identified
The victim has been identified as Marino “Aden” Montojo, 37, a councilor of Barangay Caluwasan in Clarin town. Montojo was shot dead outside a cockpit arena in the municipality.
CCTV Footage Reveals Details
An investigation conducted by the Clarin Municipal Police Station recovered CCTV footage capturing the actual incident. The footage shows another person witnessing the crime. From another angle, the suspect is seen walking along the highway toward the cockpit arena and lying in wait for the victim.
When the councilor retrieved his parked motorcycle and passed in front of the suspect, the assailant suddenly approached from behind and shot him twice. After the shooting, the suspect casually walked away and quickly boarded a waiting motorcycle.
Police Follow Leads
Despite the offered reward, the Bohol Police Provincial Office (BPPO) earlier stated that the Clarin Municipal Police Station is already following leads against the person responsible for the crime.
Authorities are urging the public with any information about the suspect to coordinate with the police to ensure justice for the slain barangay official.
