Cebu City Police Apprehend 784 in Second Day of Safer Cities Crackdown
The Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) intensified its enforcement efforts on Thursday, April 9, 2026, resulting in the apprehension of 784 individuals during the second day of the Safer Cities Initiative. This marks a significant increase from the 382 arrests made on the first day of the campaign, which began on Wednesday, April 8.
Operations Target Ordinance Violations
According to CCPO Director Col. George Ylanan, the heightened operations under Oplan Bulabog and Oplan Pakigsandurot are designed to strictly enforce all existing city ordinances to maintain public order and foster a disciplined community. The police conducted 73 operations, leading to the collection of P205,000 in administrative fines for the City of Cebu.
Breakdown of Violations
The 784 violators included a range of offenses, with the most common being:
- 197 minors taken into custody for curfew violations
- 151 individuals caught smoking in public places
- 145 apprehended for public drinking
- 106 issued tickets for roaming shirtless, violating the anti-indecency ordinance
- 139 penalized for traffic violations
- 39 cases of illegal road obstructions
- 5 individuals cited for excessive noise from karaoke machines past the 10 p.m. cutoff
Fines and Warnings Issued
Records indicate that 219 violators paid fines on the spot, while 565 others were issued warnings. Police officials have urged the public to comply with local laws, emphasizing that strict adherence is essential for maintaining a peaceful and orderly environment in Cebu City.
