Cebu Maternity Hospital Defends PhilHealth Suspension as Isolated 2011 Incident
Cebu Hospital: PhilHealth Suspension Tied to 2011 Issue

Cebu Maternity Hospital Inc. (CMHI) has publicly addressed its recent three-month accreditation suspension by the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth), firmly stating that the penalty relates solely to a long-resolved administrative incident from 2011 and does not reflect the hospital's current operational standards or quality of patient care.

Hospital's Response to Suspension

In an official statement released in response to the suspension, CMHI emphasized that the hospital remains fully compliant with established health regulations. The institution clarified that the issue involved an error made by a single employee over a decade ago, which was neither authorized nor condoned by the hospital management.

"It bears emphasizing that the implementation of the suspension in 2026 relates solely to that singular, long-resolved incident and does not reflect the Hospital’s present operations, standards, or the quality of care it currently delivers," the CMHI statement read.

Details of the 2011 Incident

PhilHealth imposed the suspension, effective from March 2 to May 31, 2026, after determining that CMHI violated accreditation guarantees under the National Health Insurance Act. This penalty stems from a 2011 inspection that flagged alleged improper benefit claims and insufficient room fee deductions.

CMHI noted that the matter was previously addressed through corrective measures and institutional guarantees, with the hospital continuing to adhere to PhilHealth directives while maintaining safe and high-quality health services for mothers and newborns.

Mitigating Patient Impact

To lessen the effects of the temporary loss of PhilHealth coverage, CMHI announced it will provide special discounts on maternal package services and house case classifications, aligning with standard PhilHealth deductions. This move aims to support patients during the suspension period.

Commitment to Transparency and Service

The hospital management assured patients and the public of its ongoing cooperation with regulatory authorities, reaffirming a commitment to transparency, accountability, and uninterrupted health services throughout the suspension. CMHI stressed its dedication to delivering consistent care despite the administrative setback.
