In response to the continuous surge in oil prices, the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) has initiated a series of measures to economize on their consumption of gasoline and diesel. This move aims to address the financial strain caused by the increasing costs while maintaining operational efficiency.
Directives Issued for Fuel Efficiency
According to Police Lieutenant Colonel Franco Rudolf Oriol, the Information Officer of CCPO, City Director Police Colonel George Ylanan has issued a directive to all personnel to avoid wastage of fuel in mobile units. This memorandum outlines specific adjustments that must be followed to achieve significant savings.
Key Adjustments for Patrol Cars
Under the new guidelines, police patrol cars are required to turn off their engines and blinkers when on standby. Officers are also instructed to exit their vehicles during daytime operations instead of remaining inside, which helps reduce idle fuel consumption.
During nighttime patrols, roving cars are permitted to keep their engines and blinkers running for visibility purposes. However, the use of air conditioning is strictly prohibited to further conserve fuel.
Strategic Deployment and Public Assurance
The CCPO has identified strategic locations where patrol cars will be stationed on standby. This ensures that police presence remains visible to the public even when vehicles are not actively moving, thereby maintaining a sense of security in the community.
Oriol clarified that the city government has not reduced their fuel allocation. However, the need for conservation arises from the scarcity of supply and the high market prices, which have put pressure on the department's budget.
The CCPO has reassured the public that these fuel-saving measures will not compromise their peace and order programs. Responding to alarms and emergencies continues to be a top priority, with all necessary resources allocated to ensure swift and effective action in critical situations.
