In a swift police operation, a couple has been apprehended for the brutal killing of a Turkish national in Ilog, Negros Occidental. The arrest followed an intensive investigation by the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, which solved the case within hours of the incident occurring on March 22, 2026.

The suspects, identified as a 34-year-old man and his 35-year-old live-in partner, both residents of Barangay Canlamay in Ilog, were taken into custody. Lieutenant Colonel Joem Malong, chief of the Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region Public Information Office, confirmed that the operation led to the recovery of crucial evidence and a confession from the male suspect.

The victim, a 57-year-old Turkish national who resided in Barangay Cabug, Bacolod City, was discovered lifeless in a sugarcane plantation in Sitio Mampuso, Barangay Canlamay, around 2 a.m. on March 22. Investigation revealed that the victim had been drinking with a female companion before the attack.

Motivation and Premeditation

According to police reports, the male suspect admitted to the killing, stating that the crime was motivated by robbery. He further disclosed that the attack was premeditated and planned in collaboration with his live-in partner. The female suspect allegedly lured the victim prior to the incident, setting the stage for the violent assault.

While traversing the sugarcane field, the victim was attacked and mauled by the perpetrators, sustaining fatal injuries to the head. The coordinated efforts of multiple law enforcement agencies played a pivotal role in cracking the case.

Recovery of Evidence and Inter-Agency Coordination

A joint operation involving the Ilog Municipal Police Station, 605th Regional Mobile Force Battalion, 6th Special Action Force Special Action Battalion, and elements of the Philippine Army led to the recovery of vital evidence at the crime scene. Items recovered included:

  • The victim's prosthetic leg and clothing
  • A car key
  • The suspect's clothing, including gloves and a sweatshirt
  • A black t-shirt used as a facial covering

Malong emphasized that the swift recovery of evidence and the suspect's admission have significantly strengthened the case build-up for filing appropriate charges.
