The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has announced that it will remain on high alert and keep its offices operational throughout the entirety of Semana Santa, also known as Holy Week. This decision comes despite the declaration of April 2 and 3 as regular holidays and April 4 as a special non-working day under Proclamation No. 1006, s. 2025.
Enhanced Readiness for Public Safety
According to the DSWD, the agency has elevated its alert status and will maintain this heightened level of vigilance during Holy Week. The primary goal is to assist in safeguarding public safety and provide support in any emergency situations that may arise. This proactive approach underscores the department's commitment to ensuring the well-being of citizens during this significant religious observance.
Operational Continuity and Resource Preparedness
The DSWD Disaster Response Management Bureau and the Disaster Response Command Center will remain open and fully prepared, operating with a skeletal workforce to enable immediate response to emergencies. The agency has assured the public that it has sufficient stocks of family food packs, non-food items, and funds ready for distribution at any time, should an emergency occur amidst the Holy Week commemorations.
Regional Monitoring and Zero-Casualty Goal
DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian has directed all regional offices of the agency to closely monitor the situation in their respective regions, provinces, and municipalities. They are tasked with ensuring preparedness to respond swiftly to any disasters. The social welfare department is aiming for a zero-casualty outcome throughout Semana Santa, emphasizing its dedication to minimizing risks and protecting lives during this period.
