The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has issued a stern warning to tricycle drivers who fail to adhere to the designated schedule for the distribution of cash assistance, set to commence tomorrow in Metro Manila. This initiative aims to provide financial relief amid ongoing economic pressures.
Cash Aid Distribution Details
Starting March 17, 2026, the DSWD will begin disbursing ₱5,000 in financial aid to approximately 139,000 tricycle drivers across Metro Manila. This assistance is funded through the agency's Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program, directly addressing the continuous surge in oil prices exacerbated by tensions in the Middle East.
Logistics and Payout Sites
According to DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian, the distribution will be conducted at 30 specified payout sites spread across 17 local government units (LGUs) in the National Capital Region (NCR). The process is expected to be completed within two to three days to ensure efficient delivery of funds.
Strict Guidelines for Beneficiaries
To maintain order and prevent overcrowding, Secretary Gatchalian emphasized that beneficiaries must strictly follow their assigned schedules and coordinate with their respective local governments. Drivers are reminded to bring a valid driver's license along with a photocopy, with the name on the license matching the official beneficiary list to facilitate the payout.
Broader Financial Support Initiative
This cash aid is part of a larger ₱30 billion fund allocated by the DSWD to assist Filipinos affected by a series of petroleum price hikes. The program is slated for expansion nationwide to cover more tricycle drivers in various provinces, extending support beyond Metro Manila.
The DSWD's proactive measures highlight its commitment to mitigating the impact of economic challenges on vulnerable sectors, ensuring that aid reaches those in need through organized and secure distribution channels.
