Duterte Supporters Organize Protests During EDSA Anniversary Commemorations
Supporters of former President Rodrigo Duterte are set to stage protests during the 40th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution on Wednesday, February 25, 2026. The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) announced this development on Monday, February 23, 2026, highlighting that the activities will coincide with the confirmation of cases against Duterte at the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Police Outline Planned Motorcades and Rallies
During a press conference, Police Major Hazel Asilo, spokesperson for the NCRPO, revealed that pro-Duterte groups will conduct motorcades around Metro Manila. "Motorcade lamang so hindi naman natin kailangan pagtuunan gaano ng pansin since hindi sila mag-stay sa isang lugar," Asilo stated, indicating that the events are mobile and not expected to cause major disruptions.
Asilo further disclosed that an estimated 20,000 people are anticipated to attend prayer vigils and indignation rallies organized by the Trillion Peso March Movement, Tindig Pilipinas, and Siklab. These gatherings will take place at White Plains Avenue and Temple Drive in Quezon City.
Massive Police Deployment for Peace and Order
To ensure peaceful commemorations, the NCRPO has prepared over 8,000 police officers for the anniversary events in Metro Manila. Nationwide, the Philippine National Police (PNP) will deploy more than 13,400 personnel to monitor celebrations and maintain order.
PNP Chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. emphasized the importance of a secure and orderly observance. "Ang layunin natin dito ay ang panatilihing mapayapa, maayos, at ligtas ang paggunita sa isang mahalagang bahagi ng ating kasaysayan. We respect the people’s right to assemble. Kasabay nito, tungkulin naming tiyakin na walang masasaktan at walang manggugulo," he explained.
Nartatez added that police presence will remain disciplined and non-partisan throughout the events. He also reminded attendees to adhere to safety protocols and cooperate with national authorities to facilitate a smooth and respectful commemoration of this historic occasion.
