Ex-Convict Fatally Shot in Cebu City, Declared Dead on Arrival at Hospital
In a tragic incident early Friday morning, a former convict was shot dead while eating by the roadside in Cebu City, leading to his immediate declaration as dead on arrival at a local hospital. The victim, identified as Jason Lendio Yuson, an elderly resident of the area, was attacked in Sityo Huyong-huyong, Barangay Mambaling, at around 2:00 AM on January 23, 2026.
Details of the Shooting Incident
According to an investigation by the Mambaling Police Station, Yuson was eating when the suspect, described by witnesses as wearing a black hoody jacket and denim pants, suddenly approached. Without any prior altercation, the suspect positioned himself behind the victim and fired twice, targeting the right waist area with an unidentified caliber firearm. After the shooting, the suspect quickly fled in an unknown direction, while rescue personnel from Cebu City Ambulance rushed Yuson to Cebu City Medical Center, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
Police Investigation and Evidence Collection
Scene of the Crime Operations (Soco) personnel recovered two .45 caliber pistol shell casings at the site, which are now in the custody of the PNP Forensic Unit for ballistic examination. Additionally, the victim's cellular phone was seized as part of the ongoing investigation. Police Lieutenant Colonel Jose Los Baños, information officer of the Cebu City Police Office, revealed that Yuson had recently been released from prison the previous Friday for an illegal drug case, suggesting a possible drug-related motive for the crime.
