Fish Vendor Apprehended in Talisay City Drug Sting, Shabu Worth Over P35,000 Confiscated
In a targeted operation against illegal narcotics, authorities in Talisay City, Cebu, successfully arrested a 49-year-old fish vendor during a buy-bust sting on the evening of Monday, March 30, 2026. The suspect, known by the alias Betty, was taken into custody at approximately 8:08 PM in Sityo Rattan, Barangay Tanke, following a transaction with an undercover police officer.
High-Value Individual and Front Operation Uncovered
Betty, a resident of Sityo Kilawan in the same barangay, has been classified by law enforcement as a High Value Individual (HVI) due to the significant scale of her alleged drug activities in the area. Police monitoring revealed that she used her legitimate business as a fish vendor, or lab-asera, as a front to conceal her involvement in the illegal drug trade. Behind this facade, she had reportedly been distributing shabu in the locality for an extended period.
Seizure and Legal Proceedings
During the arrest, officers confiscated 5.20 grams of suspected shabu from Betty's possession. Based on the valuation set by the Dangerous Drugs Board, the seized substance is estimated to have a street value of P35,360. The suspect is currently detained at the Talisay City Police Station and faces formal charges for violating Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. This law imposes severe penalties for drug-related offenses, underscoring the gravity of the allegations against her.
The operation highlights ongoing efforts by local police to combat drug trafficking, particularly targeting individuals involved in high-level distribution networks. Authorities continue to investigate potential connections and further activities linked to this case.
