Governors Thank Marcos for P321M Aid After Storm Basyang

Governors Express Gratitude for Presidential Aid Following Tropical Storm Basyang

Six provincial governors have publicly thanked President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for the allocation of millions in pesos in financial assistance to thousands affected by Tropical Storm Basyang. In a joint statement, the governors emphasized that this immediate support from the President provides significant relief to their constituents.

Details of the Financial Assistance and Its Utilization

The funds, totaling P321 million, have been directed to 34 provinces and eight cities impacted by the storm and associated shear line. President Marcos has instructed Executive Secretary Ralph Recto to ensure the swift release of these disaster funds. The money will be used for various critical purposes, including:

  • Relief operations to provide essential supplies to affected communities.
  • Repair of damaged homes, roads, bridges, and other infrastructure.
  • Other urgent needs of those impacted by the disaster.

Additionally, the provinces have committed to supplementing this aid with their own local funds to enhance recovery efforts.

Enhanced Government Coordination and Future Measures

The governors also praised the administration for strengthening collaboration with local government units (LGUs). This includes a recently signed memorandum of agreement between the Department of Education and the Department of the Interior and Local Government for the construction of classrooms. Following the signing on February 11, President Marcos convened a meeting with governors from the most affected provinces to ensure a rapid and organized government response.

During this meeting, attended by Cabinet members, the President issued several directives to improve disaster management:

  1. Accelerate and simplify the distribution of aid to reach beneficiaries faster.
  2. Provide immediate seed distribution to farmers to support agricultural recovery.
  3. Intensify river-clearing operations to prevent future flooding and enhance community resilience.

This comprehensive approach aims to address both immediate relief and long-term prevention strategies in the wake of Tropical Storm Basyang.
