In a significant crackdown on illegal narcotics, operatives from the Police Regional Office in Western Visayas (PRO 6) successfully arrested a high-value individual and confiscated a substantial quantity of shabu during a targeted buy-bust operation in Iloilo City. The incident occurred on the evening of March 31, 2026, at approximately 10:05 p.m., in Barangay Taal, located within the Molo District of the city.

Details of the Arrest and Seizure

Authorities reported that the suspect, identified only by the alias Derick, is a 40-year-old resident of Molo District. During the operation, law enforcement recovered a total of 210 grams of shabu, with an estimated street value of P1,428,000. Suspect's Criminal History and Legal Charges

Investigations revealed that alias Derick is a repeat offender with a prior drug-related conviction. He was previously arrested in February 2022 and served a sentence before being released in January 2026 under a plea-bargaining agreement. His re-arrest highlights the challenges faced by authorities in dealing with recidivist offenders within the illegal drug trade.

Police have indicated that the suspect will face serious legal consequences for his alleged actions. Charges are being prepared for violations of Sections 5 and 11, Article II of Republic Act 9165, commonly known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. These sections typically pertain to the sale, distribution, and possession of illegal substances, carrying severe penalties under Philippine law.

Police Leadership Commends Efforts and Vows Continued Action

Police Brigadier General Josefino Ligan, the regional director of PRO 6, publicly commended the operating units for their successful mission. In a statement, he emphasized the importance of sustained anti-drug initiatives and community cooperation in maintaining public safety.

"The arrest of a recidivist high-value individual underscores our firm commitment against illegal drugs. This reflects the dedication of our personnel and the importance of community cooperation. We will sustain intensified operations to hold offenders accountable and keep our communities safe," Ligan stated.

The PRO 6 has reiterated its commitment to intensifying anti-illegal drug operations across Western Visayas. The goal is to curb the proliferation of dangerous substances and ensure a safer environment for all residents. This recent operation serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to address drug-related crimes in the region.
