House Leadership Addresses NUP Budget Concerns, Emphasizes Open Dialogue
The leadership of the House of Representatives has responded to issues raised by some members of the National Unity Party (NUP) regarding budget allocations. Deputy Speaker Ferdinand Hernandez stated that the House leadership, under Speaker Faustino 'Bojie' Dy III, remains open to dialogue and encourages direct communication among lawmakers regardless of party affiliation.
Budget Processes Beyond House Control
However, Hernandez clarified that the release and implementation of budget allocations involve processes and agencies that fall outside the authority of the House leadership. This clarification comes amid economic challenges and rising prices, with the House asserting its unity in advancing the legislative agenda of the 20th Congress to ensure programs benefit Filipinos.
"The House of Representatives, under the leadership of Speaker Faustino 'Bojie' G. Dy III, remains firmly committed to transparency, accountability, and constructive engagement among all members of the chamber," Hernandez said in a statement. "The Speaker has consistently maintained an open-door policy for all members—regardless of party affiliation or position—encouraging direct and constructive dialogue."
NUP's Potential Shift to Minority Bloc
Meanwhile, Antipolo City Representative and Deputy Speaker Ronaldo Puno revealed yesterday that the National Unity Party plans to leave the majority bloc and move to the minority in the House due to dissatisfaction with Speaker Dy's leadership. Puno claimed that Dy has not taken steps to release infrastructure and social protection funds for congressmen as outlined in the national budget, which are marked for "later release."
This development highlights growing internal tensions within the House, as the leadership navigates budget disputes while maintaining a stance of openness to dialogue. The situation underscores the complex interplay between legislative oversight and executive implementation in government funding processes.
