Iloilo City Launches Free Shuttle Service During Transport Strike
The Iloilo City Government has swiftly responded to the disruption caused by the transport strike on Monday, March 23, 2026, by deploying service vehicles to offer complimentary rides to affected passengers. This initiative, part of a broader effort to support the local community, involves six buses stationed at three key jump-off points across the city, ensuring accessibility from district plazas to City Hall.
Mayor Treñas Directs Commuter Support Measures
Under the directive of Mayor Raisa Treñas, the "Libre Sakay" program aims to mitigate the impact on commuters, particularly the local workforce who rely on public transportation for their daily commutes. The service operates during peak hours, with morning runs from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. and evening sessions from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., providing a reliable alternative during the strike.
Educational Adjustments and Public Safety
In addition to the transportation support, face-to-face classes have been suspended across all levels in schools within Iloilo City. Educational institutions have shifted to alternative modes of learning delivery to ensure continuity for students while prioritizing safety during the transport disruption. This comprehensive approach highlights the city's commitment to public welfare and adaptive governance in times of crisis.
