Palace Official Labels Impeachment Complaints Against PBBM as Attack on Administration

Malacañang has characterized the recently filed impeachment complaints against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. as a direct assault on the current administration. This statement comes from Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro, who addressed the media following the referral of two verified impeachment complaints to the House Committee on Justice.

Impeachment Seen as Broader Threat to Nation

According to USec. Castro, the implications of these impeachment proceedings extend far beyond the President himself. She emphasized that such actions could potentially destabilize not only the leadership but also the entire country and its economy. “In a way, yes, because we say that any filing of an impeachment complaint does not only affect the President but the country itself and the economy,” Castro stated, highlighting the perceived broader impact of these legal challenges.

Malacañang Respects Legal Process Despite Concerns

Despite viewing the complaints as an attack, the Palace has expressed respect for the constitutional process. Castro clarified that President Marcos acknowledges the steps and decisions taken by the House of Representatives and will allow the impeachment proceedings to proceed in accordance with established laws. “The President respects whatever activities, actions, and decisions of the House of Representatives, so let us allow the process to proceed according to the law,” she added, underscoring a commitment to legal norms.

Governance to Continue Unhindered

Malacañang has assured the public that the impeachment efforts will not hinder the President’s ability to fulfill his duties. Castro affirmed that President Marcos remains undeterred in his work to improve the lives of Filipinos, despite the complaints filed against him. “First and foremost, these impeachment complaints filed against the President will not stop, will not halt the President from continuing his work to uplift the life of every Filipino,” she declared, reinforcing the administration’s focus on governance.

Cooperation with Congress Assured

In a show of transparency and compliance, Castro announced that Malacañang is prepared to cooperate with Congress if the House Committee on Justice requests any documents. She reiterated the President’s respect for the process and willingness to adhere to any legal requirements related to the hearings. “If needed and it is said that any documents should be provided, again the President respects the process,” Castro noted, indicating readiness to engage within legal frameworks.

The impeachment complaints, endorsed by Rep. Jette Nisay and lawmakers from the Makabayan bloc, mark a significant political development, but the Palace’s response suggests a strategy of resilience and adherence to procedural integrity.
