Mandaue City Government Continues Operations During Fiesta Week Despite ASEAN Summit Holidays
Mandaue City Operations Continue Amid ASEAN Summit Holidays

The Mandaue City Government continues to operate its important offices and essential services during the busy fiesta week.

This decision was made to ensure that services to residents remain uninterrupted despite the declaration of special non-working holidays for the 48th ASEAN Summit.

According to City Administrator Atty. Gonzalo Malig-on Jr., the City Government received the amended proclamation from Malacañang on Wednesday morning, May 6.

Employees had already reported for work and residents had started transactions at City Hall before the notice arrived.

City Government operations initially continued as usual before shifting to a skeletal workforce at 10:30 a.m.

Under the amended Proclamation 1239, the Office of the President declared May 6 to 8, 2026, as special non-working days in Cebu City, Mandaue City, Lapu-Lapu City, and Cordova for the 48th ASEAN Summit and related meetings.

The original proclamation only covered Lapu-Lapu City and Cordova.

The declaration aims to ease traffic congestion and strengthen security measures for delegates attending the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit. The ASEAN Summit coincides with the annual fiesta celebration in the city this Friday, May 8.

Mayor Thadeo Jovito “Jonkie” Ouano issued a memorandum ordering the maintenance of a skeletal workforce starting May 6 to ensure uninterrupted delivery of essential services.

Personnel from offices handling health services, disaster response, peace and order, emergency response, and traffic management continue to work.

Some employees assigned to ASEAN-related and fiesta activities will also remain on duty on May 7 and 8 despite the holiday declaration.

These include workers from the City Hospital, City Market, Command Center, City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, and Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue.
