Mandaue Police Intensify Security Measures for Holy Week and Summer Vacation Period

Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) has significantly increased police visibility across the entire city as authorities prepare for the anticipated influx of people during Semana Santa and the concurrent summer vacation period. This strategic move places a strong emphasis on ensuring public safety and preventing any potential criminal activities.

Proactive Deployment and Full Alert Status

According to Police Lieutenant Colonel Mercy Villaro-Kantuna of the MCPO, the deployment of police officers has already commenced ahead of the formal observance of Holy Week. "Yes, we have started deploying our police officers, especially now that Semana Santa has begun, including the summer vacation period for the Philippine National Police," Villaro-Kantuna stated. She explained that the MCPO has been placed on full alert status to effectively manage the dual challenges of the religious observance and holiday break.

To address this, all available personnel have been mobilized to enhance police visibility and deter any form of criminality. Even though some officers may be on leave or ill, the majority of the police force is already active on the streets. Police outposts will remain open to provide immediate assistance to the public.

Security Coverage Extends Beyond Churches

Villaro-Kantuna clarified that police assistance desks have been established at no fewer than ten churches in the city to safeguard devotees. However, police presence is not limited to religious sites. "Not only in churches but also in other entertainment areas," she added. Authorities anticipate a surge in crowds at malls, parks, and swimming areas as families take advantage of the holiday break, with schools being out of session.

This widespread dispersal of people to both religious and recreational locations presents a significant challenge for law enforcement. The coordinated effort aims to ensure comprehensive security coverage throughout the city during this busy period.

Public Cooperation and Vigilance Encouraged

Police officials are urging residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with authorities as tight security measures continue across Mandaue City. The public is advised to stay alert and report any suspicious activities to help maintain a safe environment for all during Semana Santa and the summer vacation.
