Motorist Arrested After Fleeing Checkpoint and Injuring Officer in Cebu City
A motorist who attempted to evade a police checkpoint in Cebu City has been arrested and detained at the Guadalupe Police Station, following an incident that resulted in an officer being injured. The suspect, identified as alias Junie, 25 years old, resides in Sitio Kanaas Singson, Barangay Guadalupe, and lives with a partner.
Details of the Checkpoint Incident
According to reports, on April 4, Junie noticed the police checkpoint along V. Rama Avenue in Barangay Guadalupe and attempted to turn back to avoid it. However, authorities observed his suspicious behavior and immediately intervened to block his path. In a desperate move to escape, Junie resisted arrest and accelerated his motorcycle toward one of the officers, striking him in the right leg and causing injury.
Additional Violations and Behavior
During the arrest, it was discovered that Junie was not wearing a helmet and failed to present a valid driver's license, compounding his legal troubles. Witnesses reported that he became verbally abusive during the apprehension, shouting derogatory remarks at the police officers. He was quoted as saying, "Mga buang man diay mo... sakto lagi mo kay mga pulis man mo... maghilom na lang ko," which translates to expressing frustration and insulting the authorities.
