In a shocking incident, residents of Purok 6, Barangay La-Union, Candijay, Bohol, discovered a newborn baby who was found dead and partially eaten by a dog on Wednesday afternoon, March 25, 2026.

Initial Discovery and Response

The Candijay Municipal Police Station received a report about the incident at approximately 6:05 p.m. Based on preliminary investigations, Barangay Health Worker Bernadeth Duba, 47, was the first to notice the remains around 5:30 p.m. that same day.

According to Duba, she observed a dog carrying something near a rice field. Upon closer inspection, she was horrified to realize it was the body of an infant. Overcome with fear, she immediately sought help from nearby farmers to retrieve the remains from the dog.

Condition of the Infant

Residents noted that the baby's body and arms were severely damaged. The remains were promptly taken to the Rural Health Unit (RHU) in Candijay for examination.

Dr. Pristine Faith Sumera estimated that the baby was born on the night of Tuesday, March 24. She further approximated the infant's weight at 3.5 kilograms and identified the cause of death as asphyxia secondary to suffocation.

Ongoing Investigation

Currently, the Candijay police are continuing their investigation to identify the mother of the child and the individual responsible for discarding the infant in the rice field. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in the case.
