Major Drug Bust in Iloilo: P680,000 Worth of Shabu Confiscated, High-Value Individual Apprehended

In a significant blow to illegal drug activities in Western Visayas, operatives from the Mina Municipal Police Station successfully conducted a buy-bust operation on February 13, 2026, resulting in the arrest of a high-value individual and the seizure of suspected shabu valued at P680,000. The operation, which took place at 5:19 p.m. in Barangay Mina East, Mina, Iloilo, underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat drug proliferation in the region.

Details of the Arrest and Seizure

The suspect, identified only as "Noynoy," a 31-year-old laborer residing in Barangay Tolarucan, was apprehended after allegedly selling a sachet of suspected shabu to an undercover police officer posing as a buyer. Authorities recovered a total of 100 grams of the illicit substance, packaged in multiple plastic sachets, along with the buy-bust money and other non-drug related items. The operation was spearheaded by the Station Drug Enforcement Team (SDET) under the leadership of Lieutenant Redan Octaviano, following a month of intensive surveillance based on tips from vigilant community members.

Police Leadership Commends Operation and Community Support

Brigadier General Josefino Ligan, Director of the Police Regional Office-Western Visayas (PRO 6), praised the operating team for their diligence and effectiveness. "We will not allow drug personalities to endanger our communities," Ligan emphasized. "PRO 6 remains steadfast in its commitment to rid Western Visayas of illegal drugs through aggressive operations and strong community partnership." Colonel Bayani Razalan, Director of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO), also lauded the Mina police force and highlighted the crucial role of public cooperation in facilitating the arrest. Razalan noted that this successful operation serves as a powerful motivator for continued anti-drug campaigns across the province.

Investigation and Legal Proceedings

Investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly sourced his drug supply from Iloilo City for distribution within Mina, indicating a broader network that authorities are actively pursuing. The suspect is currently detained at the Mina police station, facing charges for violations of Sections 5 and 11 of Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. These sections pertain to the sale and possession of dangerous drugs, respectively, and carry severe penalties under Philippine law.

This operation not only disrupts local drug trafficking but also reinforces the importance of community vigilance and inter-agency collaboration in maintaining public safety. As police efforts intensify, residents are encouraged to continue reporting suspicious activities to aid in the ongoing fight against illegal substances.
