Palace Dismisses Claims of Political Bias in Security Arrangements for Senator Imee Marcos
In a recent press briefing, Malacañang firmly rejected allegations that Senator Imee Marcos's absence of a detailed presidential security detail stems from political tensions with her brother, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. The clarification came amid growing speculation about the relationship between the two political figures.
Official Statement from Palace Press Officer
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro addressed the issue during a press conference on Friday, February 27, 2026, stating, "Wala pong kinalaman" (It has nothing to do with it). She emphasized that the President does not react negatively to his sister, regardless of any public criticisms. "Hindi po ganoon ang Pangulo, kahit nga po kung anu-ano man ang sinasabi laban sa kaniya ng sarili niyang kapatid, hindi po nagri-react ang Pangulo na negatibo sa kaniyang kapatid," Castro added, underscoring the President's neutral stance.
Security Details and Senate Inquiries
When questioned about whether Senator Marcos had refused a security detail, Castro deferred to the senator for a direct response, suggesting it would be more appropriate for her to address such matters. This follows revelations from Presidential Security Command (PSC) commander Rear Adm. Andro Val Abayon, who disclosed during a Commission on Appointments confirmation hearing on Wednesday that no security personnel had been assigned to the senator.
The situation has sparked discussions about the protocols and potential political implications surrounding security allocations for high-profile officials. Analysts note that while family ties in politics can sometimes lead to public scrutiny, the Palace's statement aims to quell rumors and maintain a focus on administrative procedures.
As the story develops, observers are watching for further comments from Senator Marcos or additional clarifications from government agencies regarding security policies and their application to elected officials.
