Pampanga Governor Calls for Proactive Contingency Measures Amid Global Fuel Crisis
In response to the escalating global fuel crisis, Governor Lilia Pineda of Pampanga has issued a compelling call to action for government agencies and local officials. During a recent Provincial Peace and Order Council meeting, she emphasized the urgent need to develop a comprehensive "Plan B" or contingency measures to mitigate the looming economic and security impacts.
Addressing Multifaceted Challenges
Governor Pineda highlighted that the crisis extends beyond mere fuel shortages, directly affecting transportation networks, employment rates, and the delivery of essential services across the province. "We are confronting a severe crisis due to gasoline supply disruptions," she stated. "It is not solely about fuel availability; we must critically assess the performance of our local companies, the welfare of the unemployed, and the stability of our transport sector."
She underscored that the proposed contingency plan must prioritize enhanced intelligence gathering and preparedness, incorporating robust strategies to maintain provincial stability should conditions deteriorate further.
Law Enforcement and Resource Management
Pineda stressed the importance of vigilance among law enforcement agencies, including the Philippine National Police, to prevent illegal activities that could emerge during periods of economic strain. Additionally, she advocated for the strategic allocation of fuel supplies to essential sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, and critical public services.
To promote energy conservation, the governor encouraged government offices and institutions to adopt energy-saving measures while ensuring that public services remain uninterrupted. "Fuel resources must be directed to where they are most critically needed—our farmers, hospitals, and essential services," Pineda affirmed.
Support for Vulnerable Groups
The provincial government is actively monitoring Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Pampanga who may be adversely affected by the global situation. Pineda noted that some OFW families have already requested assistance due to impacted remittances, and authorities are exploring support mechanisms to aid them.
In a message to residents, Pineda urged Kapampangans to remain calm and avoid panic buying of fuel and other commodities. "Do not succumb to panic. Instead, embrace responsible spending and resource management as prices of basic goods continue to rise. Our foremost priority is to support families in need," she concluded.
