Pampanga Celebrates Senior Citizens with Cash Gifts Under Expanded Centenarian Act
In a significant event held at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center on Monday, a total of 1,394 senior citizens in Pampanga were honored and presented with cash gifts, recognizing their invaluable contributions to society. The ceremony, led by the National Commission on Senior Citizens (NCSC) Region 3 and the provincial government, highlighted the implementation of Republic Act No. 11982, also known as the Expanded Centenarian Act.
Centenarians Receive Special Recognition
Among the honorees, 100-year-old Lucia Arcilla stood out as one of three centenarians awarded ₱100,000 each. This cash gift was personally distributed by NCSC Central Luzon director Emmanuel E. Daez, CESO IV, and Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Fe Manalang, who represented Governor Lilia Pineda. The event underscored the community's respect for its eldest members, with Lola Lucia's milestone serving as an inspiration.
Cash Assistance for Multiple Age Groups
In addition to the centenarians, 1,391 senior citizens aged 85, 90, and 95 received ₱10,000 each during the ceremony. This distribution is part of the first-quarter rollout of the Expanded Centenarian Act, which allows eligible seniors to apply for cash assistance four to six months before their milestone birthdays. The law aims to provide financial support prior to reaching 100 years, with centenarians continuing to receive ₱100,000 in recognition of their exceptional achievement.
Enhanced Benefits and Streamlined Processes
Further enriching the program, senior citizens aged 95 and above benefit from an additional ₱100,000 cash incentive provided by Governor Pineda and Vice Governor Dennis “Delta” Pineda through Ordinance No. 679. To facilitate easier access, the NCSC office has been relocated within the Pampanga Capitol, streamlining the submission of requirements for applicants. Senior citizens aged 85, 90, 95, and 100 are encouraged to visit this office to apply for the cash assistance program.
This initiative not only honors the legacy of Pampanga's senior citizens but also ensures they receive timely financial support, reflecting a commitment to social welfare and community care under the new legislative framework.
