A high-ranking police official has been removed from his position following a violent altercation with a subordinate officer inside the national headquarters of the Philippine National Police (PNP).
Altercation Follows Christmas Party
The incident occurred on December 16, 2025, shortly after a Christmas party held by the unit. According to reports, the conflict began as a disagreement over vehicle parking within Camp Crame in Quezon City.
The victim, a police patrolman, reported that the altercation escalated quickly. He alleged that the police colonel not only threatened and berated him but also pointed a service firearm at him. The physical assault resulted in visible wounds on the patrolman's face.
Immediate Action and Charges Filed
Brigadier General Hansel Marantan, Director of the PNP Highway Patrol Group, addressed the media in a press conference on December 18. He confirmed that he took immediate custody of the accused colonel upon learning of the incident.
Marantan stated that the officer now faces both criminal and administrative charges. "Well, grave threats—that’s very obvious—and slight physical injury," Marantan said, outlining the criminal complaints. He emphasized the seriousness of the administrative case, noting that criminal liability also constitutes administrative liability, which warrants dismissal from service.
No Justification for Violence
The PNP official made it clear that no provocation could excuse the colonel's alleged actions. "Assuming na naharangan, that is not enough reason to get angry and resort to grave threats and all that," Marantan explained. He referenced the victim's fear, noting claims that the colonel threatened to kill him and shouted about a lack of respect.
Marantan also stressed that the administrative case will proceed independently, even if the victim were to recant his statement. "In fact, I have read his report. Natatakot siguro siya. Even then, if he recants his report, the administrative case will proceed because the PNP has already taken cognizance of the matter," he added, underscoring the institution's commitment to internal discipline.
The relief of the police colonel from his post is a standard preventive measure while the investigation is ongoing. The PNP's move signals a firm stance against misconduct and abuse of power within its ranks.
