Eastern Visayas Police Launch Free Ride Program Amid Transport Strike
In response to a recent transport strike, police in Eastern Visayas have initiated a comprehensive "Libreng Sakay" program across the region. This initiative aims to provide essential transportation services to affected commuters, ensuring minimal disruption to daily life.
Commitment to Public Service and Safety
Brigadier General Jason Capoy, the police regional director, emphasized the force's dedication to its core mission. "We reaffirm our unyielding resolve to fulfill our duty to serve and protect. Rest assured, we stand ready to provide a smooth and safe transport to the public," he stated. This declaration underscores the police's proactive approach in maintaining public order during the strike.
Operational Details and Partnerships
In collaboration with local government units, the Police Regional Office 8 has launched 61 free ride operations, deploying 54 mobile units to assist stranded passengers. "These measures underscore PRO 8’s relentless pursuit of protecting lives and maintaining public order throughout the region," Capoy added. The program is designed to alleviate the hardships faced by commuters due to the transport stoppage.
Enhanced Security and Monitoring Measures
To bolster the free ride initiative, the police regional command has implemented additional security protocols. This includes assigning extra forces for traffic assistance and checkpoint operations. The deployment is reinforced by 194 Civil Disturbance Management personnel, standby augmentation forces, and 81 Reactionary Standby Support Force personnel. Furthermore, drone operators have been integrated into the strategy to enhance monitoring and support patrol operations, ensuring a swift response to any incidents.
Nationwide Police Deployment
Beyond Eastern Visayas, the Philippine National Police has mobilized resources on a national scale. In line with directives from PNP chief General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., a total of 4,002 personnel have been deployed across the country. These officers are stationed at key transport hubs, major thoroughfares, and other affected routes. Their primary objectives are to manage traffic, maintain a visible police presence, and provide assistance to commuters, thereby ensuring public safety and order during the strike.
Public Cooperation and Vigilance
Capoy also urged the public to remain calm and cooperative during this period. He encouraged citizens to report any suspicious activities to the authorities, highlighting the importance of community involvement in maintaining security. This call to action aims to foster a collaborative environment between law enforcement and the public, enhancing the overall effectiveness of the response efforts.
