Police Officers Save Student from Heatstroke in Midday Emergency

For Police Corporal Prudencio Sanchez IV, an officer with over a decade of service, the core duty to serve and protect remains unwavering. This commitment was vividly demonstrated on Monday, March 2, 2026, when Sanchez and two colleagues responded to a critical medical emergency after a student was discovered unconscious inside a parked vehicle during the peak of intense midday heat.

Swift Action During Routine Patrol

At approximately 12:30 p.m., Sanchez, a member of the Sto. Tomas Police Station's Tactical Motorcycle Riding Unit, was conducting a routine patrol when he noticed a vehicle illegally parked near a gasoline station. Upon approaching to investigate, he found the driver lying unconscious on the seat. Although the gasoline station owner had already called for assistance via a parking attendant, Sanchez was the first responder on the scene after spotting the suspiciously parked car.

Recognizing the situation as a medical emergency, Sanchez immediately called for backup from fellow officers Patrolman Rovy Dungca and Patrolman Jacinto Carag, who were on mobile patrol duty. The three officers worked together to forcibly open the vehicle door and gain access to the individual.

Immediate First Aid and Hospital Transport

After assessing the victim, Sanchez suspected heat-related exhaustion due to the extreme temperatures. To aid recovery, the officers unbuttoned the man's shirt to facilitate easier breathing and wiped his face with water to cool him down. They then transported the unconscious student to Jose Abad Santos Memorial Hospital (JASMC) BUCAS Center for urgent medical attention.

Sanchez later revealed that the patient, a man in his 20s who is now recovering, personally called to express gratitude for the quick response that helped save his life. The student had missed a meal and had an existing medical condition, which exacerbated the situation.

Community Recognition and Safety Reminders

In a text message to SunStar Pampanga, Sto. Tomas Mayor John Sambo praised Sanchez and the two officers for their prompt response and dedication to duty. Vice Governor Dennis Pineda also acknowledged their actions. Additionally, the Philippine National Police, through the Public Information Office of General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., the Police Regional Office 3 under Brigadier General Jess Mendez, and the Pampanga Police Provincial Office led by Colonel Eugene Marcelo, congratulated the three officers on their official social media pages.

Sanchez took the opportunity to remind fellow police officers to remain vigilant during patrols, as they may encounter similar emergencies. He also advised the public to drink plenty of water and avoid skipping meals, especially during periods of extremely hot weather, to prevent heat-related health issues.
