According to Police Colonel Caezar Cabuhat, the provincial police director of Lanao del Sur, the contraband was seized during a coordinated shoreline security patrol operation conducted on Wednesday, March 25, 2026. The operation took place in Bunkhouse village, located within the municipality of Malabang.
Police operatives discovered several unattended boxes containing illicit goods in an open residential area while conducting their routine patrol. Upon inspection, authorities recovered a total of 220 master cases filled with assorted smuggled cigarettes. The estimated market value of the confiscated items reached P12,870,000, marking one of the substantial smuggling interceptions in the area recently.

In an official statement released on Saturday, March 28, Police Colonel Cabuhat emphasized the police force's unwavering commitment to law enforcement. "We will continue to intensify our operations against smuggling and other illegal activities. To identify the individuals or groups responsible for the smuggling attempt, police have coordinated with the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (CIDG-BAR).
