PRO 8 Deploys 600 Cops for Christmas Road Safety

The Police Regional Office 8 (PRO 8) in Eastern Visayas has mobilized a significant force to ensure safety on the roads during the Christmas holiday period. Nearly 600 police officers have been deployed across the region in a strategic operation aimed at preventing vehicular accidents and strengthening law enforcement.

Launch of Oplan Bantay Kalsada

Brigadier General Jason Capoy, the regional director of PRO 8, announced the launch of 'Oplan Bantay Kalsada' on Tuesday, December 23, 2025. He stated that the initiative reflects the police force's proactive stance in enhancing public safety. The program is designed to protect all road users through a combination of increased police visibility, rapid response capabilities, and a firm commitment to maintaining order.

"PRO 8 stands ready to protect every road user through enhanced visibility, timely response, and steadfast resolve to public safety," Capoy emphasized. He added that the program is also focused on fostering a culture of road discipline among motorists in Eastern Visayas.

Strategic Deployment of Personnel

The core of the operation involves the strategic positioning of police personnel in key locations. A total of 258 road patrollers will be specifically assigned to monitor major thoroughfares and areas identified as prone to accidents.

The deployment is broken down as follows:

  • 100 personnel are assigned to the Leyte Police Provincial Office (LPPO).
  • 158 personnel are assigned to the Tacloban City Police Office (TCPO).

According to the regional command, these officers will be stationed in accident-prone zones to maximize their presence. Their primary objectives are to deter violations, provide swift assistance during incidents, and ensure the immediate apprehension of traffic law violators.

Goals and Broader Strategy

'Oplan Bantay Kalsada' is a key component of PRO 8's wider law enforcement and public safety strategy for the holiday season. The initiative aims to achieve a measurable reduction in traffic-related incidents through sustained police presence.

The police command highlighted that the operation underscores the importance of operational readiness and coordination among all participating units. By maintaining a high-visibility profile on the roads, PRO 8 intends to reassure the public and actively prevent accidents before they occur.

The announcement was made as the region began its Christmas celebrations, a period typically associated with increased travel and, consequently, a higher risk of road accidents.
