PSA Warns Against Unauthorized Printing of Digital National ID on Plastic Cards
PSA Warns: Digital National ID Not Valid on Plastic Cards

PSA Issues Strict Warning on Digital National ID Usage

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-Davao de Oro Provincial Statistical Office has issued a critical reminder to the public regarding the proper use of the Digital National ID. According to the agency, the Digital National ID must not be printed on Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) or any type of plastic cards. This clarification aims to prevent misuse and ensure the integrity of the national identification system.

Official Formats and Legal Implications

The PSA emphasized that while the Digital National ID serves as a valid proof of identity, it should only be accessed through the official eGovPH mobile application. Any reproduction or printing of the Digital National ID on PVC or plastic cards is strictly unauthorized and will not be considered a valid form of identification, even if presented at establishments or institutions. Only the PSA has the authority to print and issue the official National ID in its approved formats.

Furthermore, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has reinforced this directive by issuing memoranda that instruct banks and financial institutions to accept the National ID in its official formats, including the Digital National ID, as a primary and valid proof of identity. The recognized formats include the physical National ID card, the National ID in Paper form, and the Digital National ID accessed via official platforms.

Penalties for Unauthorized Activities

Under Republic Act No. 11055, individuals or groups found guilty of unauthorized printing, preparation, or issuance of a National ID face severe penalties. These include imprisonment ranging from three to six years and fines between P1,000,000 and P3,000,000. The PSA underscores that any reproduction of the Digital National ID on plastic cards falls under this illegal activity, highlighting the legal risks involved.

Combating Misinformation on Social Media

The agency also issued a caution to residents of Davao de Oro regarding misleading posts circulating on social media, particularly on Facebook. These posts falsely claim that the Digital National ID can be printed on plastic cards. The PSA labels such content as misleading and fake news, warning that it may encourage individuals to seek unauthorized services offering such prints.

To combat this, the PSA-Davao de Oro urges the public not to believe or share these posts and to rely solely on official announcements from the PSA. Residents are encouraged to report any individuals, establishments, or online pages that offer unauthorized printing services to help prevent the spread of misinformation and protect the community from potential fraud.
