QC gas-and-run driver surrenders, faces estafa

The driver involved in the latest gas-and-run incident in Quezon City has surrendered, police announced on Thursday, May 7, 2026.

Surrender and Confrontation

In a press conference, Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesperson Brigadier General Randulf Tuaño stated that the driver turned himself in to the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) on Wednesday evening, May 6, 2026. During the surrender, the driver came face-to-face with the gasoline attendant who had covered the unpaid gas bill.

Driver's Defense

Tuaño explained the driver's defense, noting that he was unaware he had failed to pay. According to the driver's statement, he was on the phone while refueling and was distracted by an argument. The gas attendant's affidavit corroborated this, stating the driver appeared to be arguing with someone on his cellphone. Initial investigation revealed that the argument was with his wife, who was urging him to come home after they had attended a party.
