In a swift police operation, one of two robbers who victimized a 14-year-old boy and his mother, a Barangay Health Worker (BHW), in Barangay San Roque, Talisay City, has been apprehended. The incident occurred on April 11, 2026, at around 4:00 AM, highlighting a brazen act of violence in the community.
Details of the Arrest
Based on information from the Facebook page of Mayor Samsam Gullas, the suspect was captured on Sunday, April 12, at approximately 3:00 PM through a hot pursuit led by Lt. Col. Homobuno Sayon, the chief of police in Talisay. The arrested individual has been identified as Andrew Abellana, a 36-year-old resident of Upper Guyabano, Barangay Candulawan.
Role in the Crime
Abellana served as the backrider on a motorcycle during the robbery and is accused of snatching the tablet from the child. Meanwhile, the driver of the motorcycle, known only by the alias "AJ," remains at large and is actively being sought by authorities. This ongoing manhunt underscores the urgency of the investigation.
Account of the Incident
During the event, the mother, Milgrace Galido, aged 45, was sweeping by the roadside while her son sat nearby, using a tablet to take photos for a barangay report. When the suspects arrived and attempted to grab the tablet, Galido courageously fought back by hitting the robbers with a broom. However, the criminals did not retreat; instead, they pursued the mother and child, stabbing them with an ice pick before successfully seizing the device.
Aftermath and Official Response
Mayor Gullas expressed gratitude for the prompt action by the police and issued a stern warning to criminals. He stated, "To these individuals, you are not welcome here. If you commit a crime in our city, rest assured, you will be arrested. Our eyes are open, and we are always watching." Currently, the mother and son are in a safe condition, but they have admitted to lingering trauma and fear that the other suspect might return to target them again.
This case serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by local communities and the importance of vigilant law enforcement in ensuring public safety.
