The Rotary Club of South Davao (RCSD) has completed a vibrant transformation of the Ilang Child Development Center, turning a simple daycare into a colorful and safe learning space. The project, which began with a groundbreaking on December 10, 2025, culminated in a community paint day on April 25, 2026.
From Groundbreaking to Grand Makeover
On December 10, 2025, RCSD broke ground on the rehabilitation of the existing daycare center. The event included gift-giving and feeding activities for the children. The construction phase added a sturdy covered roof connecting two buildings, a new concrete floor, and structural improvements to protect little learners from the Davao rain.
Community Paint Day Brings Color and Hope
On April 25, 2026, the club returned with brushes and paint. Davis Paint donated all the paint and provided volunteer painters to ensure a professional finish. Parents and barangay volunteers joined the effort, turning the day into a true community event. The club distributed loot bags to volunteers as a token of appreciation.
Rotary Club South Davao President Tita Sonja Garcia was seen working on the floor, getting her hands dirty to ensure every corner was perfect. “This is leadership in action,” said Garcia, emphasizing the club’s commitment to service above self.
A Signature Project Headed to DISCON Cebu
The transformation of the Ilang Child Development Center has become RCSD’s signature project. The team will present the project at DISCON in Cebu later this year. While recognition and trophies are welcome, the real reward is seeing children walk into a bright, safe, and welcoming center built just for them.
The project exemplifies the power of community collaboration, showing that when people paint together, they create a masterpiece of hope.
