SC Resumes Hearing on National Budget Petitions

The Supreme Court of the Philippines has rescheduled oral arguments for several petitions challenging the national budget. According to information released by the SC, the oral arguments are set for June 2, June 9, and June 16, 2026. The hearings will take place at 9:30 AM in the En Banc Session Hall and Division Hearing Room of the SC in Padre Faura, Manila.

Petitions to Be Discussed

The oral arguments will cover consolidated petitions filed by former Albay Representative Edcel Lagman, former Senate President Aquilino Pimentel III, and former House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez. Also included are petitions from the group Filipinos for Peace, Justice and Progress Movement Inc., as well as those filed by former Representative Edgar Erice and Representative Leila de Lima.

Background

The SC first conducted oral arguments on these petitions in April 2026. The petitioners seek to nullify changes and insertions made to the national budget under the bicameral conference committee, referred to as "amendments and insertions."
