Iloilo Police Apprehend Minor in Firearms Sting Operation

In a targeted crackdown on illegal firearms, operatives from the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) successfully conducted an entrapment operation that resulted in the arrest of a 16-year-old suspect. The incident occurred in Barangay So-oc, Arevalo District, Iloilo City, on February 17, 2026, at approximately 11:24 p.m., as part of intensified efforts to address loose firearms in the community.

Details of the Operation and Arrest

The operation was spearheaded by the City Intelligence Unit (CIU) under the leadership of Police Lieutenant Colonel Randy Caballes, who oversaw the sting that led to the capture of the suspect, identified only by the alias "Sing." During the arrest, authorities seized a homemade caliber .38 revolver, which was found without ammunition. Additionally, police confiscated marked buy-bust money, a mobile phone, and a green belt bag believed to have been used in the illicit transaction.

This action followed extensive intelligence monitoring that indicated the minor's alleged involvement in the illegal sale of firearms in the area. Police Colonel Wilbert Parilla, officer-in-charge of the ICPO, emphasized the significance of the arrest, stating that it underscores the police office's firm stance against illegal firearm transactions and crimes involving minors.

Following the arrest, the minor was promptly turned over to the Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) of Iloilo City Police Station 6 for proper documentation and disposition. He remains in the temporary custody of WCPD 6 as authorities prepare to file charges under Republic Act 10591, also known as the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act. Police have assured that appropriate procedures under the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act are being strictly observed in handling the case.

Community Engagement and Ongoing Campaigns
