One of the most wanted individuals in Basilan province was killed in a gun attack on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, police reported on Wednesday.
The fatality was identified as Sherham Allus Lain, alias Lupin, 36, who was listed as the third most wanted person in Basilan. The incident occurred around 11 a.m. in Baungis village, Lantawan, Basilan province.
According to investigators, Lain was taking a bath when three unidentified men armed with caliber 5.56 mm rifles emerged from a nearby bushy area and opened fire. The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds and died instantly.
Recovered from the scene were four empty shells from an M-16 rifle. Lain was facing charges for two counts of murder and one count of frustrated murder, which led to his status as the third most wanted person in Basilan.
Police believe the motive may be a personal grudge. The investigation is ongoing to determine the motive and identify the suspects.
