Zamboanga City Government Donates Four New Fire Trucks to Enhance Firefighting Capabilities

The City Government of Zamboanga has significantly bolstered the firefighting resources of the Zamboanga City Fire District (ZCFD) by donating four brand new fire trucks to the Bureau of Fire Protection. This strategic move aims to improve emergency response times and overall safety for residents across the city.

Official Turnover Ceremony and Blessing

On Monday, March 9, Mayor Khymer Olaso personally handed over the fire trucks to Superintendent Leo Pioquinto, the ZCFD marshal, following a flag-raising ceremony in front of City Hall. The event included a blessing of the vehicles by Father Larry Miranda, symbolizing a community effort to enhance public safety.

Specifications and Funding Details

Mayor Olaso detailed that the firefighting units were acquired based on approved specifications, ensuring they meet high standards for equipment, vehicle features, and firefighting capabilities. Two of the trucks boast a 4,000-liter water capacity, while the other two are equipped with 6,000-liter tanks, providing versatile options for different emergency scenarios.

The purchase was funded through the city's peace and order budget, with each fire truck costing P10 million. Fireworks Motors supplied the vehicles, highlighting a partnership between local government and private enterprise to address critical infrastructure needs.

Operational Deployment and Impact

Superintendent Pioquinto emphasized that these new additions are a substantial boost to the ZCFD's firefighting response capability. Following the blessing and turnover, ZCFD personnel conducted capability tests at a nearby establishment to ensure the trucks and equipment are operational and ready for service.

The deployment plan includes stationing two of the new fire trucks at the Zamboanga City Central Fire Station, while the other two will be allocated to fire sub-stations in the villages of Ayala and San Roque. This distribution aims to enhance coverage and reduce response times in key areas of the city.

Enhanced Fleet and Gratitude

With this donation, the ZCFD now operates a total of 34 fire trucks, including the four new units. Superintendent Pioquinto expressed heartfelt gratitude to Mayor Olaso for the ongoing support in strengthening the district's firefighting capabilities, noting that such investments are crucial for community resilience.

The ZCFD, which manages one Central Fire Station and 29 sub-stations across Zamboanga City, continues to work towards safeguarding lives and property through improved resources and training.
