Senator Bam Aquino announced plans to push for the public release of all evidence presented during the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte, aiming to foster openness and transparency in the process for the Filipino people.
Motion to Release Evidence
According to Aquino, he will file a motion during the first week of the trial to request that all evidence from both sides be made public. "In the first week, we will file a motion to release all presented evidence to the public," Aquino said in a video statement.
Importance of Public Scrutiny
The senator emphasized the need for the public to have access to the evidence so they can form their own assessments and avoid relying on misinformation. He stressed that impeachment is a serious constitutional process and that removing an elected official requires a two-thirds vote of all senator-judges.
Call for Vigilance and Engagement
Aquino urged the public to closely monitor the hearings and said he would use his social media platforms to gather questions and issues that citizens want addressed during the trial. He also pledged to remain impartial as a senator-judge and vote solely based on the evidence presented in the impeachment court.
"This is our promise. We will dissect the evidence. We will ensure that the trial is fair. No colors, no friends, no enemies. We will vote according to the evidence," Aquino stated.
