Senator Joel Villanueva Submits Counter-Affidavit in Bulacan Flood Control Malversation Case

Senator Joel Villanueva has officially filed his counter-affidavit in connection with a malversation complaint related to a flood control project in Bulacan province. This legal move comes as part of an ongoing preliminary investigation by the Department of Justice (DOJ).

Timely Submission Ahead of Extended Deadline

The senator submitted the counter-affidavit on Friday, well before the extended deadline set for January 26. This extension was granted after the prosecution panel approved Villanueva's motion for additional time to prepare his defense. According to Department of Justice Spokesperson, Atty. Polo Martinez, the document was filed prior to the scheduled preliminary investigation hearing on Monday.

Involvement in Multiple Cases

Senator Villanueva is named as a respondent in three out of six cases filed concerning construction firms Wawao Builders and Topnotch Catalyst Builders, Incorporated. All of these cases are currently undergoing preliminary investigation by the DOJ, focusing on allegations of malversation tied to the Bulacan flood control initiative.

The submission of the counter-affidavit marks a critical step in the legal proceedings, as Villanueva seeks to address the charges and present his side of the story. The case highlights ongoing scrutiny of government projects and the accountability of public officials in the Philippines.
