Palace: VP Sara's personal appearance can answer allegations

Palace Press Officer Usec. Claire Castro stated on Friday that Vice President Sara Duterte's personal attendance at the impeachment trial would give her the opportunity to directly answer the allegations and face the witnesses. According to Castro, this would also allow the Vice President's camp to demonstrate her innocence, if that is their position, not only to the Filipino people but to the entire world.

Senate Orders Personal Appearance

The Senate has previously ordered VP Duterte to appear either personally or through her lawyer at the opening of the impeachment trial on July 6. The trial is expected to tackle the various articles of impeachment filed against her. Castro emphasized that Malacañang respects the Senate's process as an impeachment court, adding that the defense and prosecution strategies are now in their hands.

Opportunity for Transparency

Castro further noted that a personal appearance would be more beneficial in showing transparency. "It would be better to show this not only to Filipinos but also to the whole world," she said. The trial is set to begin next week, and the Senate has yet to finalize the rules of procedure.
