Bangsamoro Government Delivers 60 New Homes to Indigent Families in Sulu

The Bangsamoro government has taken a significant step in addressing housing needs in the region by turning over 60 newly built houses to indigent families in Sulu. This initiative, carried out through the Kapayapaan sa Pamayanan (Kapyanan) program, marks a pivotal moment in providing safe and dignified living conditions for vulnerable communities.

Official Turnover Ceremony in Kabungkol Village

The housing units were officially handed over on Thursday, January 22, 2026, in Kabungkol village, Talipao, Sulu. Engineer Jordan Katog, the Kapyanan project development officer, confirmed the details on Friday, January 23, highlighting the collaborative efforts involved in this project.

Each beneficiary family received a housing unit valued at P710,000, designed to offer comprehensive amenities. The houses measure 42 square meters and include:

  • Three spacious rooms for family use
  • A comfortable living room area
  • A functional kitchen for daily meals
  • A small terrace for outdoor relaxation
  • Solar-powered lighting systems for sustainable energy
  • A reliable water system component for essential needs

Commitment to Community Development and Hope

Engineer Katog emphasized the critical role of intergovernmental coordination in delivering basic services effectively. "We believe the project will bring hope and comfort to our fellow Bangsamoro, and we remain committed to continuing our efforts to improve the lives of our communities," Katog stated in an official release.

Talipao Mayor Reham Tulawie echoed these sentiments, noting that the turnover ceremony represented more than just the distribution of physical structures. He described it as the fulfillment of a profound promise—one of safety, dignity, and hope for families who deserve a place they can truly call home.

Strict Guidelines to Ensure Long-Term Benefits

To safeguard the integrity of the housing program, Katog and Mayor Tulawie reminded beneficiaries of important restrictions. The housing units must not be sold, transferred, rented out, or abandoned. Violations of these rules could lead to termination of benefits and disqualification from future housing programs under the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Barmm).

This Kapyanan initiative underscores Barmm's ongoing dedication to providing safe, dignified, and sustainable housing solutions for Bangsamoro residents in Sulu. By focusing on interagency cooperation and community-centered approaches, the program aims to foster long-term stability and improved quality of life for indigent families across the region.
